SJQ IP Moot Court Team Performs Admirably in Exhibition at Summit

Competitors and Judges after the exhibition round on February 17, 2012.

Congrats IP Moot Court Winners: Bird and Orme, Cazier and Carpenter

Teryn Bird and Nate Orme won best briefs and best overall.

Levi Cazier and John Carpenter won best oral arguments.

On Wednesday January 11, 2012 two teams from the University of Utah SJ Quinney College of Law competed against each other as well as several BYU teams in the local round of the Giles Sutherland Rich Memorial Moot Court Competition.  The teams each had to write two briefs, one on each side of the argument, as well as prepare for both sides of oral arguments, all over the holiday break.  From all accounts, the Utah Teams performed admirably and we look forward to seeing our top team perform again at the IP Summit in Salt Lake City on February 17th.  Many thanks to Workman Nydeggar for  hosting and coordinating this event.

IP Summit coming up soon…register

The IP Summit is the big  event for the IP Section of the Utah Bar, and this year has a great lineup of speakers, including Hon. Randall Rader (Federal Circuit), Robert Stoll (USPTO Commissioner for Patents), David Nimmer, and others.  This year the summit is being held at Little America in downtown Salt Lake.

Also we will get to see winners from the IP Moot court from the U and BYU compete against each other in oral argument.

Typical student registration for the entire day is only $20.   Lunch and handouts are included.

November 19th – Kunzler Needham Massey & Thorpe

What a great turn out!  I think everyone who attended learned something new.  Brian Kunzler did a great job setting realistic expectations about clerks, interns and careers after graduation.  If you attended and enjoyed this candid lunch, make sure to send him a thank you e-mail.
